baqara 8-20(munafiqin)

8. Of the people there are some who say: "We believe in Allah and the Last Day;" but they do not (really) believe.
9. Fain would they deceive Allah and those who believe, but they only deceive themselves, and realise (it) not!
10. In their hearts is a disease; and Allah has increased their disease: And grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to themselves).
11. When it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "Why, we only Want to make peace!"
12. Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief, but they realise (it) not.
13. When it is said to them: "Believe as the others believe:" They say: "Shall we believe as the fools believe?" Nay, of a surety they are the fools, but they do not know.
14. When they meet those who believe, they say: "We believe;" but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say: "We are really with you: We (were) only jesting."
15. Allah will throw back their mockery on them, and give them rope in their trespasses; so they will wander like blind ones (To and fro).
16. These are they who have bartered Guidance for error: But their traffic is profitless, and they have lost true direction,
17. Their similitude is that of a man who kindled a fire; when it lighted all around him, Allah took away their light and left them in utter darkness. So they could not see.
18. Deaf, dumb, and blind, they will not return (to the path).
19. Or (another similitude) is that of a rain-laden cloud from the sky: In it are zones of darkness, and thunder and lightning: They press their fingers in their ears to keep out the stunning thunder-clap, the while they are in terror of death. But Allah is ever round the rejecters of Faith!
20. The lightning all but snatches away their sight; every time the light (Helps) them, they walk therein, and when the darkness grows on them, they stand still. And if Allah willed, He could take away their faculty of hearing and seeing; for Allah hath power over all things.

These verses describe about the  third category of mankind in Madina, al munafiqin , such as their leader Abdullah Ibn Ubay Ibn Salul who had devioused in belief to Allah and pretended to be a Muslim. He had hoarded his refutation of Iman and surreptitiously confronting the Prophet. Al Quran has sneered him as cowards in making his stand of iman inarticulately over the community of Madinah. His turbulence revenging towards the Prophet who from his point of view was a stone for his  small business in this life. being is munafiqin was--as a tectic to rid the movement of the prophet.

regardless of
, they were in doubt to be a proper Muslim. Even they aware that  the group of the Prophet will win in any battle , they refuse to  be a sincerely follower of the Prophet. and still together with the side of Jews who lost in Madinah.

Allah clearly describes:

8. Of the people there are some who say: "We believe in Allah and the Last Day;" but they do not (really) believe.

Allah explains that his appearance was totally different from the inside?

9. Fain would they deceive Allah and those who believe, but they only deceive themselves, and realise (it) not!

their valuation about cleverness is  based on limited life , duniawi and not go extent beyond the need of jasad.
They forget to understand the real life that delivered truly by the Prophet that is much longer from what they

10. In their hearts is a disease; and Allah has increased their disease: And grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to themselves).

what  is the kind of disease they have?

disease of fear if their need would be gone up is so badly place in their heart . this hearty disease which is more  dangerous than any other physical disorder  slip them away from iman. slightly more and more   with every step of their refutation toward the Prophet message.

 so

11. When it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "Why, we only Want to make peace!"

here this verse describe about another overt sign of them . He , who has big  position in his community in early years of hijrah justified /vindicate over his nephew, Saad Ibn Ubadah . one of the best followers of the Prophet that he is a doer of good manners and so benevolence in demolish poverty in Madinah.

12. Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief, but they realise (it) not.

Allah emphasize here that they who fondly professed as doer of good manners and maker of outstanding contribution in his community , He  will make people suspicious  to them and then deserted them.

13. When it is said to them: "Believe as the others believe:" They say: "Shall we believe as the fools believe?" Nay, of a surety they are the fools, but they do not know.

Their measure of fool believes is totally different from measure of mukminin

14. When they meet those who believe, they say: "We believe;" but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say: "We are really with you: We (were) only jesting."

this verse discover the compromise between Abdullah Ibn Ubai and and Jews tycoons who sponsor financially him to--Madinah  , they feeble to ward off the jews threats and succumbed

15. Allah will throw back their mockery on them, and give them rope in their trespasses; so they will wander like blind ones (To and fro).

Allah herald  that their future will be in failing

16. These are they who have bartered Guidance for error: But their traffic is profitless, and they have lost true direction,

in hereafter, they will return to the worst place ,more than those who disbelieves( kafir) .

17. Their similitude is that of a man who kindled a fire; when it lighted all around him, Allah took away their light and left them in utter darkness. So they could not see.

as a kind of fact, they had never accepted iman at all, even they prayed many times behind the Prophet.or listened the massage directly from the Prophet,

their desire is only about duniawi.

18. Deaf, dumb, and blind, they will not return (to the path).

This so terrific examples  sense

19. Or (another similitude) is that of a rain-laden cloud from the sky: In it are zones of darkness, and thunder and lightning: They press their fingers in their ears to keep out the stunning thunder-clap, the while they are in terror of death. But Allah is ever round the rejecters of Faith!

this example illustrate  gigantic darkness come around them and make them in bobbing.

here the question is how can they ward off and

20. The lightning all but snatches away their sight; every time the light (Helps) them, they walk therein, and when the darkness grows on them, they stand still. And if Allah willed, He could take away their faculty of hearing and seeing; for Allah hath power over all things.
